The top surface of my rear bumper was scratched up and looking kind of bad from dragging stuff out of the wagon so I took matters into my own hands.
I went to the local skate shop and bought a 36" x 9" piece of deck grip tape.
Step 1: measure for the center of the tape (4-1/2") and cut accordingly. You will now have (2) 36" x 4-1/2" pieces.
Step 2: Open the hatch of the car and mark the center line of the bumper.
Step 3: Lay 1 of the piece of the tape (with the backing paper still on it) on the left side of the bumper. Adjust the tape to wherever you would like it to begin on the inner part of the bumper. Hold it firmly and mark the contour of the bumper on the bottom (backing tape side) with a pencil.
--Do this carefully and in small increments if necessary to prevent a return trip to the skate shop!
Cut along the line you've made, leaving a small bit (a few mm) for error. Use big, sharp scissors. It's much easier to cut this way.
Lay it back on the bumper to assess the contour.
Once you are happy with the look (don't stick on yet!), get the other, uncut piece of tape.
Step 4: Using the piece you've just cut, make a mirror copy for the other side. When you make the copy, the just-cut side (L) will be backing paper side up and the uncut side will be tape side up.
I drew my lines with a metallic Sharpie and cut just inside the line.
You will now having two halves for the bumper.
Step 5: Stick whichever side you feel the most comfortable with on the bumper. My OCD dictated left side first!
--BE CAREFUL!! This tape is VERY sticky. I laid the edge closest to me on the bumper first and rolled the tape on slowly.
Repeat for the other side.
Press the tape down well, close the hatch and walk away!
Grand total-$5.25 for the tape and 15 minutes of time!
