How to install MK4 Lights (for MK III Golf/Jetta/Vento)

Remove the grill

Remove the 4 screws at the toip of the grill. Then, using a screwdriver, unlock the
lower catches at each end of the grill. Then unlock the remaining lower latches. Now pull the
grill up off the radiatior support. Now use a small screwdriver to release the catches and remove
the lower grill.

Remove the headlights

This is easy. Just un-do the 4 screws from around the headlight assembly.

Make your bracket

Now you need to make a small bracket out of aluminum. You may need to play with the size a
little, but my piece of aluminum was about 1.5 inches long. You want to bend it at just a tad
less than a 90 degree angle. I know its a little hard to see but have a look at the picture
below. You need a hole on the top and bottom parts of the bracket just like in the picture.

Cut the rad support

Because the MK4 lights are a lot deeper than the stock lights, a small part of the rad
support needs to be trimmed. This can be done using a dremmel. There is small indentation to
follow when you are cutting. When you are done cutting the peice out, make sure to sand the
area down and then paint it with some anti-rust paint.

Getting the wiring harness ready

You might want to disconnect the battery before you do this. Cut off the stock wiring harness.
Now, if you bought your lights from PG-Performance, the wires come pre-labeled. Just solder
the appropriate wires together. Make sure you wrap the wires in some sort of electrical tape
or insulation!

Finally putting the lights on

First line up the light and screw the top mount to the aluminum bracket you made. Now,
screw in a small nylon spacer (you can buy these at any hardware store) bottom mount by the
bumper.

Now that the light is secure, temporarly hold the grill in place to judge the position of
the light. Adjust the size of your lower spacer accordingly until the light sits flush with
the side of the front of the car. Once adjusted, line up the top inside mount to where the
light is sitting level. Now, using the hole in the headlight mount as a guide, drill a hole
in the rad support. Now fasten one end of a long spacer to the rad support and the other to
the back part of the light mount. Again, shorten the spacer as needed to make the light sit
flush. Now that the lights are installed you can connect the wiring harness to the back of
the lighting assembly.

Intstall the grill

Now you can put the grill back on. If all went well, you should have your lights installed
in a few hours. Here is the finished product.
